S2 Ep. 9 Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day, Mamas! Stacy and I had an awesome time in May recording some sweet episodes for y'all.

For our first episode we were invited to be interviewed for Mother's Day by our pastor, Rob Salvato, on his podcast, The Basics of Life ConversationsHe asked some funny and serious questions, and it was fun to be on the other side of a podcast interview for a change :)

For the next two episodes Stacy and I interviewed the two moms who have had the most influence on us as moms: ours! We both know how incredibly blessed we are to have had these incredible women raise us. Moms have such a HUGE role in their children's lives, in fact, I would go so far as to say they have the most influence over their kids in most families.

Rachel’s mom, Yvonne, has been married for 39 years, has three grown daughters, and two grandsons. She helps to oversee the women’s ministry at our church among many other things.

Stacy’s mom, Anita,...

S2 Ep. 7 Being an Intentional Mom

It can be difficult in today’s culture to be intentional about anything; it’s much easier to just let life happen and take things as they come. In the mom world, however, there is great value in parenting with intent: the intent to listen to our kids, to teach them how to make good choices, the intent to raise good students with great work ethic, etc. If we are not proactive in training, teaching, and guiding our kids, the world and its influences will do that job for us.

Moming with intention sounds great, and it’s definitely easier said than done. This episode we had the pleasure of welcoming Christy Duff to the show. Christy is an awesome homeschooling mom who is currently raising teenagers and young adults. She is a pastor's wife, speaker, and all around FUN mom! She has made it one of her goals to be a mom who is intentional about raising her kids.

On this episode, Christy highlighted three key areas that we can (and should) live with intent...

S2 EP. 6 Raising Respectful Kids

When I look in a general sense at American culture today, I don’t think ‘respectful’ is on of the top 10 words I would use to define what I observe. Respect must be taught and modeled as children grow, and unfortunately I don’t think that is happening on a large scale.

Why is respect important? First off, God requires it in the Bible. It’s actually one of the 10 Commandments, “Children, obey your parents for this is well pleasing to God.” “Husbands, love your wives, and Wives, respect your husbands!”  I believe that when you earn someone’s respect and learn to show respect, it not only pleases the Lord, but it also opens up opportunities in your life for great blessing.

Our guest on today's episode, Sarah Frenzel, is mom to five, founder of Behold Community Schoolhouse in Franklin, TN., and all around wonder-woman! Sarah gave us some amazing and practical tips on how to address disrespectful behavior, but...

BONUS: Happy New Year, Moms!

2020 was really weird crazy insane interesting. Like any year, there were highs and lows, but it seemed as though everything was more extreme this year. The lows were intense valleys and the highs were exuberant mountain tops.

One thing is for sure, we feel like changed mamas! And that's a good thing :) It was one of the hardest years of our lives: aside from the Covid hoopla, Stacy had massive health problems and Rachel's husband was without a job for nine months. However, we serve such a great God, and He takes all things and turns them for good.

This podcast was one of the really good things that came out of 2020! We also felt shaken and awakened by the Lord this year. To use a popular phrase from this year, we are 'woke' to the fact that living in America, we have become soft Christians. We have taken precious things for granted: worship, gathering for church, family, and freedom. Our Constitutional and God-given rights have been infringed upon. And we...

Ep. 8 It's Christmas! Balancing Tradition and Meaning

Merry Christmas, Moms. It is officially the busiest season of the year, but what a GREAT reason to be busy: celebrating Jesus. I love that no matter what-pandemic, political climate, where you live, or what havoc 2020 may have wreaked on your life-we celebrate the fact that Jesus humbled Himself and endured this broken world for our sakes and for our salvation.

Christmas will never change because Jesus will never change.

In this episode our guest Julie, mom to four biological children and foster mom to countless more, shared with us her joyful traditions to help keep the focus on the meaning of the season. It's super easy to get caught up in the hoopla, and before you know it, it's December 26th and you're wondering why you're so exhausted and missed Jesus completely.

Here are some of the fun, meaningful, and kid-friendly activities that we discussed on the episode:

1.) Advent calendar: we love handmade items, but there are plenty of store bought advent...

Ep. 5 Finding Joy in the Daily Grind

Motherhood is many things: amazing, tiring, wonderful, hard, exhausting, and satisfying. It's also a major grind.

Motherhood has been described in this way: the days are long but the years are short. We do the same thing day-in and day-out: cook, clean, teach, work, drive, repeat. Somewhere in there we are supposed to sleep. We are constantly not only trying to meet the needs of the family that God has given to us, but teach and train our children to become God-loving and fearing adults.

Very quickly, we can become tired and depleted, which often leads to us losing our joy and purpose as we parent. Constantly taking care of and training up little humans day after day can take its toll, so it’s important that we find time to fill up so that we can be poured out again.

Sometimes our mom·ing work can feel meaningless. Washing dishes and scrubbing toilets, or reminding your child to put deodorant on every day...

Ep. 3 Navigating Through the Noise

This world is filled with lots noise. The culture is constantly screaming different messages at us, and it uses social media platforms, news cycles, celebrities, politicians, and even religious leaders to pound these narratives into our brains.

The loudest narratives are often motivated by fear, “Fear you’re not a good enough mom, you’re too strict, you’re too laid back, you’re child isn’t going to be smart, you’re child isn’t going to be safe, you’re children are going to miss out on a critical step in life if you as a mother don’t provide X, Y, and Z." The mom guilt is a powerful tool when wielded in the wrong hands.

How do we as moms know who to listen to? Is there such a thing as too much information? How do we teach our children to identify lies and counteract with the truth? We may be raising young children...
